What is Your Attention Span For the Things of God?

Colossians 3:2

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

So, what is your attention span? Are the cares of this world choking you because your attention to the things of God is very short? If it is then you need to repent and focus more on obeying God and His holy word. Many self proclaimed Christians are putting most of their attention on sports, music, movies and whatever entertainment the world offers. This is an epidemic across America and even in many other countries. So many people are carnal minded and materialistic. Just look at the man made religious system. They preach for an hour and entertain themselves for the rest of the night. I know this because I grew up in a Baptist church where they have ungodly youth groups and even so called, "Christian football and yes even cheerleaders. Is this not an offense to God as God would never approve of such things.

James 4:4

“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”

This scripture is very clear and yet often goes ignored by Christians. Most people who say they are Christians and do not desire to come out of the world are most likely not even born again believers. This is sad because most people are raised into this system including myself but when you become a seeker you will come out of it. Most people are comfortable where they are letting another man (pastor) to give them the word of God without even studying it themselves or testing that church body to the word.

1 Thessalonians 5:21

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”

1 John 4:1

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

This is an idea of a modern day church program. (program isn't biblical) Coffee and doughnuts and people discussing all sorts of things they did through the week which doesn't include God. Then they sit in the pews for about an hour and if it lasts any longer they start to get irritated because after all, they have a football game to watch or a movie to entertain themselves with. Then they might eat together while saying a couple things about the sermon that's always good and then they switch their short attention span of God to their fleshly carnal and worldly ways as  they discuss what they are going to do through the week. God is only their God for one hour on Sunday and one hour on Wednesday. How shameful these people are for honoring God with their lips while their hearts are FAR from Him.

Isaiah 29:13

“Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:”

It's easy to get sidetracked from the truth when your not careful. The best thing a Christian can do is to stay busy abounding in the Lord's work.

1 Corinthians 15:58

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

Romans 15:13

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

Philippians Chapter 2

Amen!! Working to build the kingdom of God by witnessing the truth of God's word and calling people out of Sunday man made religion. Giving our utmost attention to the father and pondering scriptures and how to apply them to our hearts and lives. Taking God's word seriously and searching for the meaning of His truth.

John 8:32

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 17:17

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

Ecclesiastes Chapter 12

Micah 6:8

“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”

Luke 10:27

“And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.”

Is your attention on God or mostly on yourself?  May God help us all to humbly serve Him and think upon the things that are edifying to us.

Philippians 4:8

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things arehonest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

May God be glorified and His word prevail in all things.
